Yeah, I just wanted an excuse to draw the…um…fishnet shirt.
I lied though, my clubbing dress doesn’t have sculls on it. Just roses. But other than that, I think this is pretty accurate.
So, There’s a video from last years Akon that I had forgotten about. This Video starts out with me taking this picture of the guy who was in the comic. I totally forgot that I had photo reference or I would have given him the glasses and dimples. I think he got away with it because of the dimples.
That’s Gina of Red String who is very pregnant. She was there when this happened last year at Akon. I ran into the man again this year and got the story on tape. I tried to put it into illustrated form, which I may post tomorrow, but the best parts of it didn’t come out as well as I’d like. Sometimes a good story doesn’t make a good comic and vice versa.
At some of the conventions the artist alley isn’t actually closed but the artists pack up their tables. Most artists take their things with them but I’m lazy and have just thrown a sheet over it in the past. My philosophy is that the Devil’s Panties merchandise is only valuable to people who like the comic. This is reinforced by this young man coming to me to admit that he sort of, accidentally, stole a book. He was drunk, found my table covered but unattended, and had taken a book. He was horrified the next morning to wake up clutching an unpaid for comic book. I loved the story so much, I tried to give him more merchandise. I’ve found that when you spend ten years giving a comic away for free, readers tend to be appreciative. The comic books value lies in it’s content and not in the object itself.
Yeah, I had a lot of fun at the Dallas Texas Anime convention Akon. There’s something about Geek Girls who revel in cosplaying strong latex clad villains (and heroes) that makes me all tingly in the good way. I’m not too sure if I want Batgirl to save me from the nefarious intentions of Harley and Poison Ivy. Catwoman seems to be on the fence about weather she’s going to help or hinder.
As much as I post comics about pretty ladies, I prefer the boys equipment. I just recognize an aesthetically pleasing figure no matter the gender. I get mildly frustrated when there’s a negative post in response to a male figure. There seems to be a double standard in regards to the exploits of the male form. Show a woman in a thong; “oh baby oh baby”. Show a man in a thong and you invariably get someone saying “ew gross, I don’t want to see that.” Mostly I’m referencing a time that I posted on twitter a link to a compilation of photos of hot soccer players. One response that I got was a guy saying “ew, dudes, gross.” Well yeah, I may find girls pretty but I find guys HOT and it’s frustrating that there’s this automatic assumption that “sexy” means “woman”. At least, that’s the majority. I revel in a woman who can show off her curves. I love drawing comics about women who are comfortable with themselves. But I’m attracted to guys. It pisses me off when I try to show off guys who express their sexuality and are shot down for it. Revel in what you find atractive and pay no attention to the trolls behind the curtain.
When I looked online for some reference photos of Muggle Quidditch I found that this is a popular college sport that looks kinda like rugby with sticks (but with more geeks of the hot female persuasion).
