Once upon a time, we stopped having advertisers and just had a fund drive each month to make up the income that we needed to keep the lights on and the mortgage paid.
After a few months we noticed that the bulk of the monthly donations were being provided by the same few (totally awesome) readers. We didn’t want to put that burden on such a specific few, so we ended the monthly fund drives.
Now we are trying to balance the books and keep the lights on, and we found that we still need the advertisements to help pay the bills.
In a perfect world, we wouldn’t need advertisements on our website. But until we find that perfect world, the gas, mortgage, power, and water companies would all like to get paid, like, every month.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is that if you are a Bonus Booty subscriber you will be immune from all this.
The Bonus Booty is a subscription where you get a few emails a month with bonus comics, art, and media. Now, in addition to all that, you get to browse the site without ads.
One day we’ll be able to figure out a way to keep the ads off the site permanently, but till then, subscribe to the booty.
Lar told me this story at GenCon last year. I totally forgot about it. When he told me the story, I took photo reference with the intent of doing a comic about it. I’m going to include the photos in the next Bonus Booty email that goes out.
The only time to go to Waffle House is 3am when you’re too drunk to read a menu. Or if you’ve been “camping” for three days, not sleeping, and only eating pop tarts. I went to Waffle House once when I was well rested and moderately peckish. It was traumatizing.
In the first episode of Jem and the Holograms, Jem is on a flying stage and she crashes a Misfits concert. If someone had spent the time and money to advertise and set up a show and someone else crashes it, who exactly would be the bad guy? Jem is one of those cartoons that you go back to and realize the animation is still awesome, but the message is a bit wonky. Also, still have the “Misfits in Hawaii” song stuck in my head.
