A friend got her one of these Dragon Neck Pillow and it came in real handy when your neck seizes up. A couple cookies and a cartoon later, she was fine. But I made sure to give her lots of cuddles before and after the baby was born.
Yeah, so it still had a CVT, but the 3.6 was a much better match for the transmission. The CVT and Turbo combo on the 2020 Outback was unpredictable, teetering on the line between annoying and dangerous(it vaguely resembled a big single-turbo 2JZ, just scaled down).
The dealer we found it at was terrible(they previously tried the 4-square sheet on us), but it was the only certified used Outback in the color/trim we wanted within 500 miles. While the price for the car was fine, they got us on the warranty. I thought I was negotiating on an official Subaru warranty, but they were weaseling me with the phrasing of “Subaru Approved” vs “Subaru Certified”. When I saw the final paperwork and spotted that it wasn’t official Subaru, they changed the paperwork out for me, and I ended up paying full price on the real warranty vs a deal on the third party warranty. I was too tired to care at that point, which is an intentional design feature of the car-buying process.
The Outback has served us well so far.
This process took about a year all things considered. We also test drove a manual Crosstrek and Impreza, however the car was too small and the transmission was vague and clunky. Gave me a new appreciation for how terrible you can make a car when you simply don’t care about driving experience, especially after driving the VW Sportswagen, which was rather lovely. It also gave us an appreciation for enjoying things while they last, as manual cars are dying out.
I did eventually find another dealer to test drive the Santa Fe Limited, however after some research there were some engine reliability problems. A shame because the features and driving were excellent.
We wanted an EV around this time, but the only things that fit our requirements were over 90k.
As for which car we ended up with…
