I am self sufficient as long as that sufficiency only requires duct tape and twist ties to accomplish.
We totally kept both our kids umbilical cords. Originally this comic had a Predator in the last panel but I figured flowers and sunshine was creepier.
Now it’s tradition to get hot coco when we go to the doctors office. And those chocolate muffins are pretty much a huge slice of cake. Hospital Cafe’s are the best.
Because society has clearly told mothers that it’s THEIR job to get everyone ready and out the door (or fed or packed) and their own needs come as an afterthought. Obby is still trying to figure out why I’m trailing after everyone because my own shoes aren’t on and my own bag isn’t with me. I do this with dinner too. Everyone is halfway through dinner and I’m still getting my own drink and cutlery. Because I spend all my time getting everyone else’s shoes and drinks and food. I just need to communicate clearly to the other grownups around me what needs to get done and stop thinking I’m the only one who can do everything. Just because society says I can do everything on my own, doesn’t mean I have to.
And apparently, it was full of neon. At least, according to today’s style, it was. I remember corduroy and plastic hair clips. I did have some teal and yellow high tops and Transformer velcro shoes. We had a trampoline and they hadn’t invented the covers for the springs yet (or at least, we didn’t have any) and a visiting kid did land face first into the springs and a rusty hook did cut her face and she had to get three stitches. Because it was the eighties.
